I am a writer and editor who has also been a teacher, a journalist, a census enumerator, a toy seller, a cheese buyer and produce slinger, a secretary, a waitress, and a groundskeeper. I have an MFA in poetry and certification in teaching English to speakers of other languages. After working as an editor and journalist, I taught writing and reading to international students at the university level for ten years before returning to school in 2021 to earn an MA in History and a graduate certificate in public history.
I have a particular interest in Palestinian poetry and culture. In addition to taking three independent trips to the West Bank, I taught literature and academic writing as a Fulbright Scholar at An-Najah National University in the West Bank in the spring of 2020. Early posts in my blog, Restless Clouds, were written there. I have taught informal courses and given lectures on Palestinian writing; please contact me about scheduling an engaging and informative presentation for your book club or other group.
A dedicated amateur cellist who performs regularly in Richmond and beyond, I am also the writer and curator of words for the Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia. In this capacity, I work with musicians to create programs that combine music, literature, and history. I would be delighted to work with your organization or ensemble to design a concert of words and music.
